Terence Crawford Vs. Errol Spence: Odds, Records, Prediction

The fight that boxing fans have been hungering for throughout the past few years is finally here. When Terence Crawford and Errol Spence hear the bell for Round 1 of their epic clash on Saturday night, they’ll finally figure out who is the best welterweight and perhaps the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. To say there’s plenty at stake in this matchup is a massive understatement. Here’s everything you need to know about Terence Crawford vs. Errol Spence, including the odds, their records and a prediction on who will win.

The two have been circling each other for years, and negotiations between them had stalled multiple times. But now Crawford (who has one of the 147-pound belts and who is No. 1 on my pound-for-pound list) and Spence (who has the other three welterweight titles and who is No. 2 on my list) will fight for the undisputed championship.

“I think I could beat anybody at any sport,” Crawford said. “That’s just my nature. I play to win. If I’m going to challenge you, I’m coming to win, and I believe that wholeheartedly. That could be anybody. Even if I’m playing Michael Jordan in one-on-one.”

Said Spence: “I’ve been fighting the best for a long time. When you see all the legends of the sport, they fought each other and made historic fights. That’s what I want to do. Terence is one of the best fighters in the world and I’m one of the best fighters in the world, so we had to make this happen.”

Though this match feels like a 50-50 tossup, Crawford is the slight betting favorite. That could be because he seems to be slightly stronger and perhaps slightly more skilled than Spence. He also has a mean streak in the ring that not many other top-notch boxers have shown.

But Spence has a slightly better resume, and he typically gets off to better starts at the beginning of fights than Crawford does.

Still, this fight is going to be evenly matched.

“He thinks he’s going to bulldoze me and break me, but he’s going to have to show me,” Crawford said. “All of that talk is fuel to the fire that’s already burning. He’s going to have to prove everything that he’s saying come fight night.”

Neither of these fighters have fought anybody as skilled as their Saturday night opponents, and it’ll be fascinating to see how they can adjust to each other once the bout begins.

“I don’t think there’s anyone I fought who’s similar to Terence Crawford,” Spence said. “His style is different from anybody else. I don’t think Sugar Ray Leonard fought anyone like Tommy Hearns until he fought Tommy, and vice versa. That’s what happens in these historic fights.”

Here’s more info on the Terence Crawford vs. Errol Spence showdown that U.S. viewers can watch on Showtime PPV or PPV.com for $84.99 beginning at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday.

Terence Crawford vs. Errol Spence odds

As of this writing, Crawford is the slightest of favorites at -163 (bet $163 to win $100 or win $61 on a $100 wager). Previously, Crawford was -175, but that -163 money line has stayed steady for the past few weeks. Meanwhile, Spence is the +130 underdog (win $130 on a $100 bet).

Either money line is fine to bet, but if you like Crawford, I like the +275 you’d get for a stoppage (he’s +175 to win by decision). If you’re going with Spence, I like him to win by decision at +260 instead of him scoring the stoppage at +550.

Terence Crawford vs. Errol Spence records

After winning the undisputed junior welterweight championship in 2017, Crawford (39-0, 30 KOs) moved to welterweight and scored victories against Shawn Porter, Egidijus “Mean Machine” Kavaliauskas, Kell Brook and Amir Khan. It’s a good list of opponents but not necessarily a great list.

Spence’s (28-0, 22 KOs) resume at welterweight is even more impressive than Crawford’s run, including victories against Yordenis Ugas, Mikey Garcia, Danny Garcia and Shawn Porter.

Terence Crawford vs. Errol Spence prediction

This will be the highlight of Crawford’s career. Spence might take a small lead on the scorecards through the first few rounds, but once Crawford finds his rhythm, he’s going to be explosive. Spence has shown he’s a great fighter, but Crawford is just a little bit better. And he’s going to prove it by stopping Spence in the 10th round.
