Taylor Swift And Morgan Wallen Dominate Apple Music's Year-End Lists

In a year-end roundup of the music that Apple Music subscribers couldn’t stop listening to in 2023, Taylor Swift and Morgan Wallen have emerged as the dominant musicians on the platform.

Swift scored the coveted title of Apple Music’s Artist of the Year, according to a press release. That’s not entirely shocking, as she’s wrapping one of the biggest years of her career, but her performance was beyond anyone’s expectations. Swift even managed to break some impressive records on the platform in 2023.

According to the announcement press release from Apple, “All told, more Apple Music subscribers listened to Taylor Swift in 2023 than to any other artist in the world, and this set a new all-time record for the most listeners for any artist in a single year on Apple Music.”

While Swift claimed the Artist of the Year accolade, the top spot on Apple’s Top Global Songs list went to Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night.” Wallen’s chart-topping hit resonated with audiences worldwide, even though country is usually considered only an American favorite, making it the most-streamed song of the year on the platform.

Rounding out the top five most-streamed hits of the year on Apple Music are Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” (No. 2), SZA’s “Kill Bill” (No. 3), Drake and 21 Savage’s “Rich Flex” (No. 4) and SZA again with “Snooze” (No. 5). Swift’s presence on the charts extends to the most-streamed songs, with “Anti-Hero” securing the No. 6 spot.

African superstar Rama’s “Calm Down” stands out as the most-Shazamed song globally in 2023. Apple purchased the music identifying app in 2018, and thus it has access to what tunes people all around the world are investigating.
