The only one who is not yet known if he will return is Antonio Banderas as the energetic feline Puss in Boots.

The fifth part will be directed by Walt Dohrn, who worked as writer and artist on Shrek 2 and Shrek the Third and as head of story on Shrek Forever After, in which he also lent his voice to Rumpelstiltskin.

Shrek 5 will be produced by Gina Shay and Illumination founder Chris Meledandri.

In April 2023, Meledandri teased a fifth movie to Variety, saying said that they were already in negotiations with Myers, Diaz, Murphy and Antonio Banderas, for their roles of Shrek, Donkey, Fiona and Puss in Boots.

“We anticipate the cast coming back. Talks are starting now, and every indication that we’ve gotten is there’s tremendous enthusiasm on behalf of the actors to return,” he said.
