Only Nicole Kidman Could Make Taking a Break the Biggest Career Flex

We’ve reached the end of another week. But before we clock out for the weekend, we’re giving credit where it’s due. Nicole Kidman is the latest champion in our Winner of the Week series.

“We come to this place for magic…”

If it felt like Nicole Kidman was kind of everywhere last year, that’s because she was. The Oscar winner has been working on twice as many projects as her A-list peers for the past few years, and for a good reason (more on that in a sec). But after the breakneck pace of her output in 2024, she’s taking a step back. Of course, “taking a step back” for Kidman looks like doing a movie and a TV show. She’s just that productive.

At South x Southwest for the premiere of her new film Holland (coming to Prime later this month), Kidman told The Hollywood Reporter that 2025 is “actually not as crazy. I was much more out there last year; this year I have Holland, I have [season two of] Nine Perfect Strangers, and then I’m off for the rest of year. So, oh well!” Compare that with everything she was in over the course of 2024: Expats, A Family Affair, Babygirl, The Perfect Couple, Spellbound, and Lioness.

There’s a simple reason Kidman has been a workaholic of late: With Hollywood in, let’s say, a weird space lately, she’s one of the few stars whose name can actually get a project green-lit.

“There are so many opportunities in terms of being able to be of service to the people who are coming up, and using what I have and can do for people…I’m thinking, ‘I can create more work for people. I can create jobs for people.’ And also, I love it. I have the passion. I’ve just got to take care of my body. I wish I had superpowers because I would love to be everywhere,” she told Variety in October 2024.

Helping people work is great on its own, but look a little closer at Kidman’s filmography, and you’ll see she’s not just picking projects at random. Nicole Kidman is almost single-handedly boosting the number of projects directed by women in Hollywood.
