Meghan Markle Is Making No-Earrings the New No-Necklace Jewelry Trend

’Tis the season for elegant black dresses and sky-high heels. So says Meghan Markle, also known as the Duchess of Sussex, also known as America’s favorite royal, at The Paley Honors at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles on December 4.

Meghan was there for the center’s annual fall gala, this year honoring her friend Tyler Perry. She kept her look understated as usual for the event, wearing a strapless black dress with an empire waist, a high center slit, and a short train. The dress revealed her strappy, high-heeled sandals, and she accessorized with a simple diamond necklace, a Cartier love bracelet, and a messy updo. Interestingly, she skipped the earrings. (Perhaps no earrings are the new no necklace?)

As usual lately, Meghan Markle walked the carpet solo, without Prince Harry at her side. The couple have been making a lot of separate appearances lately to keep up with their individual projects and obligations. For instance, in November, Prince Harry went to Vancouver to take in a Canadian football final, while Meghan stayed in Los Angeles for the launch party of one of her investments.

“It’s clear that a twin-track approach is evolving,” an unnamed inside source told People. “The duke and duchess have now hit their stride as individuals—not just as a couple. The duke appears focused on his patronage work, and the duchess focused on her entrepreneurial track.”

Meghan sat with her good friend, Tyler Perry, at the event, as he was honored for his remarkable career. Also in attendance: Oprah, Kerry Washington, Ted Sarandos and Nicole Avant, James Pickens Jr., Debbie Allen, and more. The Paley Center for Media is the world’s leading nonprofit cultural institution dedicated to preserving media’s history. The proceeds from the evening supported the organization’s educational programs, and the ongoing preservation of the Paley Archive, the world’s foremost collection of television and radio programs.
