Of all the ways and all the times that Mean Girls has been parodied, honored, musicalized, rebooted, and otherwise paid tribute, who would have guessed that the best one would come from a two-minute Walmart commercial? And yet, here we are. From the moment Lindsay Lohan’s voiceover began, Millennial hearts everywhere were set aflame.
Reuniting OG mean girls Lohan, Lacey Chabert, and Amanda Seyfried as their iconic characters, the ad catches up with Cady Heron, Gretchen Wieners, and Karen Smith today; along with a few additional choice cameos (Kevin G!). The spot packed a truly impressive amount of references and call-backs to the original movie in such a short time frame.

Cady is now the guidance counselor at North Shore High, where her Gen Z students are baffled by her use of the word “grool,” which I guess is no longer cool. Karen is now a TV meteorologist (“There’s a 30% chance that it’s already Wednesday.”), and Gretchen is a mom to a couple young mean girls of her own (“Get in, sweetie, it’s time to go deal shopping!”). We get an appearance by Kevin Gnapoor (Rajiv Surendra), who’s watching football with Kevin Jr., and our beloved Damian (Daniel Franzese), who is directing the winter talent show. And yes, they still use Janis’s original choreography. Even Missy Elliott makes an appearance!
