Bella Hadid Just Invented Trend-Maxing

I wanna call this Bella Hadid street look something like: best friend’s cool older sister in the 2000s. There’s a touch of the pre-indie-sleaze era with the coin charm necklace and vintage-looking brown leather jacket, while the light-wash flares (frayed hems mandatory), graphic tee, and skinny headband bring it back to the pre-Obama years. Needless to say, I’m feeling 10 kinds of nostalgia right now, and I wanna talk about it.

In addition to the cowboy boots—which are also present and accounted for in this outfit—Hadid has made a roomy leather bomber jacket a staple of her fall and winter wardrobe. This one, clearly the focus piece of the outfit, is a warm, chocolate-brown color with cream shearling lining and trim, including a cape-like hood in the back. The boxy jacket is sized to fit at least two Bella Hadids inside, and fits perfectly within her favorite ’70s Western aesthetic.

Assuming that Hadid did not literally buy her accessories from a local thrift shop (which she has been known to do), the vibe is totally there. The gold coin necklace with a bulky silver chain could easily be a top-tier flea market score, while the black sunglasses are fashionably nondescript.

Hadid’s off-duty style these days tends to draw inspiration from ’70s rock and roll, like with her many Penny Lane coats; Spaghetti Westerns, hence the cowboy boots and fringe; ’90s supermodel chic; and Y2K-era boho, which is having its own moment right now.
